SWMC Volunteens get hands-on experience
July 2, 2012Local teenagers are getting the chance to gain hands-on experience in a hospital setting through the Southwestern Medical Center Volunteen Program this summer.
This year’s program started June 1 and runs through the end of July. There are 15 volunteens participating, said Anna Marie Ochsner, the hospital’s volunteer director. The students applied for the program through their individual schools. They must be at least 14 years old, said Ochsner, who has coordinated the program for 14 years but knows it has been around even longer than that.
