The Short Stay Unit at Southwestern Medical Center was started in 1984 to give patients the opportunity to have surgery without an overnight hospital stay. The unit is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. There are more than 300 types of surgical procedures, which can be performed as a Short Stay surgery. Expedited Registration and Discharge

Canceling Surgery

Surgery Instructions for Children

Whether our patient is a child, teen, adult or a senior, our guidelines apply to all. Babies and young children may wear pajamas to the hospital and bring their favorite toy or blanket, if desired. It is not safe for anyone to care for a child who has had surgery and drive a car at the same time. Please bring another adult to assist you. Be prepared to stay at the hospital until your child is discharged.
