Outpatient Surgery involves minor or intermediate surgical procedures, some level of anesthesia, however the patient is able to return to home the same day the surgery was performed.

Short Stay Surgery
The Short Stay Unit at Southwestern Medical Center was started in 1984 to give patients the opportunity to have surgery without an overnight hospital stay. The unit is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. There are more than 300 types of surgical procedures, which can be performed as a Short Stay surgery. These include, but are not limited to: adenoidectomy, nasal polypectomy, rhinoplasty, breast biopsy, cataract removal, minor eye surgery, tendon repair, ear and hernia surgery on children, tubal ligations, knee and other orthopedic procedures, vasectomies, circumcisions, D&C’s, laparoscopies, and many others.
